Overview

Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour starts from Kathmandu at 7 am and ends by reaching Chitwan around 1 pm. Chitwan, one of the oldest National Park in Nepal where one can enjoy Jungle or Wild-Life Safari. Meanwhile, overland takes about 5/6 hours journey to reach 170 KM distance drive from Kathmandu. Likewise, you can take a short flight of 20 minutes to Bharatpur airport and you can reach to Sauraha. At Sauraha where most of the good lodge, hotels, resorts are located at the premises of National Park border rim. Chitwan also a transit point for Pokhara, Lumbini and Ilam town. On reaching your hotel within Sauraha, you can rest and have lunch and visit places nearby.

Chitwan National Park

One of the most famous and visited parks of Nepal, located at Mid-South of the country with a warmer climate. Chitwan a popular wild-life destination due to its short and easy accessibility by land or air flights. Similarly, the park was designated as a World Heritage Site since 1984. Presently, it is regarded as best Asia’s National Park for wild-life safari.

Cultural Dance

A native Tharu cultural activity that is performed on joyous moments or celebrations during festivals, marriage, events, and cultures. Some of the dances are of planting and harvesting crops. Some as with self-defense against wild animals when they go in the jungle to gather firewood, fishing or hunting.

Canoe Trip

A trip on a small boat of dug-out canoe made from the wood of the Silk Cotton or Sal trees. Floating downstream Rapti River maneuvered by the local boatmen from the end of the boat. During, an interesting quiet ride you can observe water birds like Bengal florican, Giant Hornbill, the Black Stork, etc. Common birds seen are Peafowl, Red Jungle fowl, and different species of Egrets, Herons, Kingfishers, Flycatchers, and Woodpeckers. The best time for bird watching is around March and December.



Elephant breeding center

A short drive from the hotel to see the elephant breeding center, where one can observe elephants. Elephant breeding center was established during the 1980s where you can watch elephants on their own habitations. Most of the elephants used for commercial jungle safari ride are female which is easy to tame and domesticate.  An interesting place to learn more about Indian species elephant which slightly different from African ones. Much larger than Asian elephants in size and tusks.

Elephant bathing:

Elephant bathing is exciting and interesting to watch as well to join in scrubbing the elephants’ backs. A short walk takes you to Rapti River where most of the washing and bathing of an elephant takes place. Elephant loves to cool in the pool of water or in rivers. Meanwhile, you can watch elephant drivers commanding the elephants into some positions where one can bathe the elephant. You can cool yourself with a spray of water from the elephant trunks.

Bird watching

Bird watching is another excellent place in Chitwan National Park. Chitwan famous for over 450 different species of exotic birdlife, with endangered
birds Bengal florican, the Giant Hornbill, Lesser Florican, Black Stork and White Stork. The most common birds seen are Peafowl, Peacock, Red Jungle fowl, and different species of Egrets, Herons, Flycatchers, Woodpeckers, etc. The best time for bird watching is around March and December. Chitwan is also famous for water birds like ducks, pochard and storks.

Sun Set

Sun Set from elephant back with amazing views to watch while on a late afternoon elephant safari. From Machan (observation towers) or from the river banks a different setting and beauty to observe while in Chitwan.

Tharu Village Tour

While in Chitwan not to be missed place is a village tour of the Tharu community, an indigenous ethnic tribe. Further, enjoy walking around the village where most Tharu lives in a hut made from bamboo or elephant grass stalks. Observe interesting painting on houses with impressive local favorite symbols of chilies and other designs. Before, Tharu were nomads and hunters where they were settled in one place. But, at present, they are engaged in agriculture and fishing. Visit Tharu museum to gather more information on these interesting people the Tharu of Chitwan and of Nepal Terai belt.

They hardly sleep, and feeds on elephant long grass, hay from crops and seeds, fruits where available.
Asian elephants are much smaller in size than African ones but are calm and well tamed. Wild elephant exists in Nepal and around Chitwan area. They migrate in certain seasons like in spring and summer looking for crops, long grasses, hays to feed them.
